On June 15, Luxembourg’s Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, inaugurated the extension of digital fabrication laboratory (FabLabTechnoport; the extension is hosted in the creative hub at 1535° Differdange, which is a unique concept of entrepreneurship open to all creative professions. This is a win-win partnership: the extension of the FabLab on the site of the 1535° gives more visibility to the digital fabrication laboratory of Technoport.

The national innovative business incubator Technoport has thus now two laboratories: one on the Esch-Belval site with equipment adapted to small prototyping, and one in Differdange with more equipment for industrial projects.

Technoport was created in 2012 by the Luxembourg State and the SNCI by bringing together under one governance various public infrastructures of incubation, namely the Technoport in Esch-Belval and the Ecostart centres in Foetz. Technoport‘s mission is to foster innovation and technological entrepreneurship in the Grand Duchy. One of the tools to achieve this goal was the creation in 2013 of the first “general public” FabLab in Luxembourg.

Since 2013, over 600 students between 6 and 12 years of age have participated annually in practical workshops at the FabLab on the Esch-Belval site, over a hundred prototyping projects were carried out there in 2015 by non-profit organisations, SMEs and even large industrial groups. Following this success, the extension of the Technoport FabLab installed at 1535° in Differdange was also equipped with more powerful machines.

The FabLab has become for us a fundamental pillar for the emergence of oriented companies products. Today we offer a full range of technological and innovative entrepreneurs from validating their idea through rapid prototyping.

In her speech, the Secretary of State for the Economy said “This is a win-win partnership: the extension of the FabLab on the site of the 1535° gives more visibility to the digital fabrication laboratory of Technoport while the creative hub comes with FabLab to expand its range of services. Thus, the 1535° reinforces its role as a player in the national ecosystem favourable to the development of innovative and creative businesses.”

Diego De Biasio, Director of Technoport, stressed the importance for such an incubator of Technoport, to develop a rapid prototyping platform: “The FabLab has become for us a fundamental pillar for the emergence of oriented companies products. Today we offer a full range of technological and innovative entrepreneurs from validating their idea through rapid prototyping, for attracting startups like Airboxlab, XDVision and Makikko. As an open platform to the public, the FabLab has allowed us to develop interesting links with the creative industries sector, hence our interest to host this extension to 1535°.”
