Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption in Luxembourg is relatively high, after a survey found that only seven out of ten people admitted to having used AI tools. But use varies with age.
Of the 600 people surveyed by Quest, four out of ten respondents used AI tools occasionally and three out of ten used them regularly. A fifth of respondents admitted to using them several times a day. While usage was highest among younger people.
Most Common Tasks
A large majority of users, some 80%, said they used AI tools in their private lives.
Of all the LLMs on the market, OpenAI’s ChatGPT was the most popular, used by eight out of ten respondents.
Use cases ranged from finding answers to questions (58%), to writing, structuring and developing arguments (45%).
Public Opinion
Trust was also high in AI tools, with just 14% of respondents sharing concerns.
Nevertheless, respondents raised concerns about the loss of cognitive abilities, such as memory, critical thinking and creativity, was the biggest concern (36%) as well as ethical questions related to influencing public opinion (32%).
There was also considerable concern of its impact on learning processes (41%) and on an AI singularity event (41%).
AI’s potential benefits were acknowledged by some: one in five applauded AI’s ability to accelerate research and innovation while 35% celebrated its impact on science, medicine and other key sectors.
Overall, opinion was cautiously optimistics, with three quarters of respondents adopting a balanced view, recognising both opportunities and risks.
