Luxembourg API mocking tool founders Mockoon were recognised at the 2025 “Acteurs du Libre” competition, winning the European Award in collaboration with APELL.
Organised by Union of Free Software and Open Digital Companies, CNLL, the awards highlight successes and exemplary projects and companies contributing to advances in free software.
Luxembourg-based startup Mockoon was awarded for its solution for quickly designing and running REST APIs. According to competition organisers, “The jury wanted to reward the relevance of the work and encourage the creator for embodying the open-source entrepreneurial spirit.”
Founded in 2017 by Guillaume Monnet, a developer passionate about APIs and building tools for other developers, Mockoon now has tens of thousands of active users, including developers from global organisations such as Amadeus, Booking.com, and Vodafone.
“This award is a recognition of the efforts from our contributors, maintainers, community members, and users who have helped Mockoon grow into a reliable, widely-used open source API mocking solution,” Mockoon’s founders said, adding: “We remain committed to investing in the project’s long-term sustainability, supporting contributors, improving documentation, maintaining high-quality releases, and exploring responsible funding models that keep the core project free and open.”
Other winners of the 2025 “Acteurs du Libre” Competition include Thales for Best Open Source Strategy; XWiki for the Business Development Award; the Paris Rectorate for the collaboration between its Capytale platform and the IT service company Vittascience receiving the Public-Private Collaboration Award; Murena for the Open and Ethical Digital Award; and the APRIL association for its radio show “Libre à vous”, which was recognised with the Special Jury Award.
