Eight years after building its fund administration arm, Hugo Vautier takes the helm of Opportunity FS as it scales up with ERP and selective AI.

Opportunity FS has created the CEO role for Hugo Vautier, who built its fund administration arm, now over half of revenue. His priorities: technology, service expansion and international growth, while keeping independent ownership and no offshoring. He explains how tech supports that plan.

You’re rolling out a new ERP and selectively integrating AI tools and agents. Where is AI adding the most value right now?

The biggest value we see right now is in removing repetitive work and giving our clients better access to more timely information across their structures and investments. Our objective is to support our teams so they can spend more time with clients, apply their expertise, and provide the guidance that creates real value.

We are deliberately taking a selective and considered approach to how we introduce AI. The areas where we see the most immediate potential are document and information extraction, standardised workflow automation, and helping our teams navigate and interpret large volumes of information more efficiently.

A well-invested ERP is really the core foundation from which we will build. We believe that once you have cleaner, more structured data and processes in place, you can then layer the right AI tools and agents on top, in a controlled and purposeful way.

Regulatory requirements are getting closer to those of much larger organisations. How is technology helping you keep up without ballooning headcount?

Indeed, the regulatory burden continues to increase irrespective of the size of the organisation, so simply adding people every time another requirement appears is not a sustainable model. We are looking at how technology can standardise processes, automate controls, improve audit trails and make information much easier to retrieve. This can include everything from onboarding/KYC demands through to ongoing compliance monitoring and reporting.

It doesn’t remove the need for experienced compliance professionals; if anything, their judgement becomes more important over time. However, technology should allow them to focus on exceptions and higher-risk areas rather than manually processing every piece of information.

You’re expanding internationally while keeping independent ownership and no offshoring. What’s tech’s role in scaling that without losing client proximity?

Our model is based on maintaining senior, local relationships with our clients. We don’t want growth to mean moving work thousands of kilometres away and, in doing so, creating additional layers between the client and the people who are actually responsible for their business and who have built up that knowledge over many years.

Instead, we want common technology, processes and data to sit behind our local teams. A shared ERP, digital workflows and, increasingly, the use of leading AI-enabled tools will allow different offices and jurisdictions to operate from the same infrastructure, while the relationship itself remains local and close to each client’s needs. That should allow us to enter new markets, integrate teams more quickly and create greater consistency across the Opportunity FS Group, without losing the proximity and responsiveness that our clients value.

For me, technology should make us more scalable behind the scenes, while ensuring we never lose the human relationship with our clients.
