Luxembourg’s OQ Technology teams up with Telefónica Germany to trial the first European satellite-to-smartphone two-way communications demo.
OQ Technology and Telefónica Germany will conduct the first live demonstration of two-way communications by a European satellite operator directly to standard, unmodified smartphones — including iPhone, Samsung, and Google devices — using terrestrial mobile spectrum.

The test, planned in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, will integrate LEO satellites with existing mobile networks to support messaging and voice services. OQ’s 3GPP-based payload covers MSS S-band, C-band, and IMT bands, making it the first European operator active across all three major D2D spectrum bands.
