Luxembourg has reinforced its reputation as a RegTech hub with the launch of Italy’s Aptus.AI in the grand duchy.
The fast-growing startup, which raised €3.27 million in seed funding, offers patented technology that converts any legal text into machine-readable, structured data optimised for AI analysis. This powers a generative AI tool that “detects and notifies regulatory updates in real time, sending daily email alerts tailored to an organisation’s areas of interest,” according to Aptus.AI. The company reports that its platform reduces compliance research time by an average of 60% while minimising errors compared to generic AI tools. Legal and compliance teams in banks such as Intesa Sanpaolo and Generali Investments already use the solution.
Luxembourg a natural choice for expansion
“We are excited to establish our presence in Luxembourg, a market known for its pioneering role in financial services and regulatory innovation,” said Aptus.AI co-founder and CEO Andrea Tesei. “With its high concentration of financial institutions, Luxembourg is the ideal place to show how Aptus.AI can help in-house legal departments and compliance teams turn regulatory challenges into a competitive advantage through AI.”
Founded in Pisa, Italy, in 2018 by Andrea Tesei and Lorenzo De Mattei, Aptus.AI has attracted investors including Azimut Investments SA, the Luxembourg branch of the Azimut Group. While revenue figures are not publicly disclosed, Clodura.ai estimates annual revenue between €11 million and €100 million, placing the startup in the mid-market range for RegTech companies.
Aptus.AI has also gained recognition for its work with EU projects. In 2023, it was selected for the Chat-EUR-Lex project under the NGI Search program and currently serves as the “AI Legal Assistant” in LLMs4EU – Large Language Models for the European Union project. In 2024, it won the “Innovation of the Year” award at the Fintech Awards.
