Following its promise to bring artificial intelligence out of the lab and straight into the real world, the University of Luxembourg’s SnT gathered over 800 founders, researchers, and tech leaders at the ECCL in Kirchberg. The goal? Moving past AI buzzwords to build systems that society can actually trust.
Regulation as the Foundation of Trust
The afternoon kicked off with opening remarks from Carlo Duprel, Head of the SnT Technology Transfer Office, who was refreshingly direct about Europe’s position in the global tech race:
“Europe is leading in AI regulation, and we believe that without regulation, AI should not be trusted. We want to build the technology around this regulation so that European society can fully benefit from the potential of AI.”
University of Luxembourg Rector Jens Kreisel added to that urgency, noting that AI is a tool businesses need right now to stay competitive. “We know that AI will have a deep impact on society and on companies,” Kreisel stated, reminding the room that businesses using AI effectively are already outgrowing the rest.

The high-level political backing was clear as Luxembourg’s Minister for Research and Higher Education, Stéphanie Obertin, praised the SnT model for bridging public research and private success, taking the vision a step further into independence:
“Today, innovation is not only about competitiveness. It is also about resilience and sovereignty… This means that we must be able to push innovation far enough to develop technologies that we can use ourselves and where it is suitable to share with our trusted partners.”
This set the stage perfectly for a sharp keynote by Guillaume Bour, VP Revenue EMEA South at Mistral AI, who broke down how open AI models are bridging the gap between fast innovation and strict data privacy: “True trust in AI isn’t built by keeping technology behind closed doors; it’s built through customization, transparency, and deployment control.”
The Proof: Deep-Tech Sneak Peeks
Among seven local projects on display, the star of the show was the AI Assessment Sandbox Configurator.
Co-developed by SnT and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), this open-source tool directly delivers on the day’s vision. It tackles a massive compliance headache for European startups and corporates alike, helping companies easily test and validate their AI models to clear the strict hurdles of the new EU AI Act.
Other practical standouts on the tour included In-Cabin Safety sensors for cars, Eco-Mapping AI for underwater wildlife, the WINGOS personalized learning platform, and Debunked, an interactive game teaching users how to resist fake news.
Beyond the Lab
The day wrapped up with SnT’s signature Flashtalks, where researchers had just five minutes to pitch complex ideas—spanning from space robots keeping orbits clean to smart systems designed for drone defense. With 30 live demos taking over the ECCL floor, SnT Partnership Day proved that Luxembourg isn’t just talking about the future of AI—the ecosystem is actively building the tools to make it reliable, practical, and ready for business.
