Luxembourg robotic solar panel cleaning firm SolarCleano is to open a fully-owned assembly line in Zhengzhou, China.
The announcement came as the Grass-based scale-up signed an agreement to deliver up to 500 solar cleaning robots to China over the next three years.
“This is more than a business deal, it’s a recognition of the hard work, creativity, and passion of our team, and the trust partners around the world place in SolarCleano,” said company CEO Christophe Timmermans on LinkedIn.
Founded in 2017 as a robotics spin-off of height safety firm Fallprotec, Solarcleano is now present in more than 100 countries.
“Seeing our robots ready to support solar plants in some of the toughest environments reminds us why we started this journey,” said Timmermans.
According to Solarcleano, China recently surpassed 1,000 GW of installed solar capacity and aims to triple this within five years.
Designed for large-scale solar plants in harsh environments such as the Taklamakan and Gobi deserts, SolarCleano’s robotic solutions offer waterless cleaning systems, maximising energy output while reducing operational costs in regions where water is scarce.
SolarCleano says it plans to grow its engineering team in Luxembourg and invest in its Grass headquarters in 2026.
