The Xplore Venture Programme community meetup held a few days ago, brought together researchers and entrepreneurs to promote partnerships and scalable business ventures from Luxembourg to the world.
This was a unique event hosted by the University of Luxembourg’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). Attendees had the opportunity to network, explore new ideas, and discover potential collaborations that could lead to the next big innovation.
The Xplore Venture Programme community meetup serves as a bridge between academia and industry, building connections that drive progress. “What we would like is to bring the external community into SnT. Once we have people who are eager to explore, the first thing they need is contacts. And that’s exactly what this event is designed to provide,” said Philip Grother, project officer of the Xplore Venture Programme.
SnT, a renowned research centre at the University of Luxembourg, specializes in fintech, cybersecurity, space systems, and autonomous systems. It has successfully collaborated with over 65 companies and public organizations, leading to the creation of seven spin-offs. These collaborations demonstrate the real-world impact of connecting researchers with entrepreneurs.
This edition of the Xplore Venture Programme community meetup featured a showcase of research projects, with researchers stationed next to their posters, ready to engage with attendees. Entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem leaders had the chance to discuss ideas, exchange contacts, and identify potential partnerships.
The Role Of Entrepreneurs In Residence (EIRs)
One of the key highlights of the Xplore Venture Programme is the presence of entrepreneurs in residence (EIRs). These individuals play a crucial role in research and commercialization. “If you have an idea and want to explore it with us, that’s what we’re here for. We want to connect SnT to the outside world and the outside world to SnT,” said Grother.
EIRs are entrepreneurs who collaborate with researchers at SnT to turn academic findings into viable businesses. This partnership creates an ecosystem where expertise in research meets practical business acumen, ensuring that innovations can be effectively brought to market. By participating in the meetup, aspiring entrepreneurs can learn how to become an EIR and work with SnT’s top of the line research.

We receive direct feedback from society and industry on what we’re doing,” said Christine Homolko, who leads the communication team at SnT. Such interactions are invaluable in refining research directions and ensuring that innovations are both impactful and relevant.
