On November 25, Unzer, a prominent provider of integrated payment and software solutions, inaugurated its new office in Munsbach, Luxembourg, displaying the company’s rapid growth and dedication to delivering tailored payment solutions in the region.
The new Munsbach office replaces Unzer’s previous location in Grevenmacher, marking a significant step in the company’s Luxembourg expansion. Over recent months, Unzer has expanded its workforce, strengthening its key functions to support continued growth in the market. “We understand that merchants in Luxembourg are looking for the convenience of a single provider, and that’s exactly what we deliver,” said Robert Bueninck, CEO of Unzer. With plans to increase the size of its Luxembourg team to more than 40 members in the coming months, the company is well-positioned to meet the needs of local merchants while deepening its foothold in this progressive market.
Luxembourg’s unique position as a small yet digitally advanced market provides fertile ground for Unzer’s innovative solutions. Luxembourg’s digital maturity outpaces that of other regions such as Germany and Austria. “While Luxembourg is a smaller market, it’s significantly ahead in its digital journey compared to other regions such as Germany and Austria,” said Birgit Bucari-Kaiser, managing director of Unzer. Coupled with its dynamic start-up environment, Luxembourg offers the ideal setting for Unzer’s products. The company’s local team, combined with its Luxembourg license, enables Unzer to develop and deliver solutions tailored to the region’s specific demands.

Vendor solutions
Unzer’s suite of point-of-sale (POS) solutions is a cornerstone of its offerings. These solutions include cashier software, card terminals, and the innovative POS Go device. Designed as a compact, portable tool, POS Go integrates a card reader, receipt printer, and scanner into a single unit powered by cloud-based cashier software. “What makes us unique, and I would say, in the markets that we operate in, is the fact that you can get all the solutions from one side,” said Bueninck. Its advanced features, such as real-time sales analytics, digital accounting, and receipt storage, make it an invaluable tool for merchants looking to modernize their operations and offer contactless payment options.
Since launching its POS solutions in Luxembourg earlier this year, Unzer has empowered small and medium-sized businesses to digitize their operations and provide customers with a seamless shopping experience across multiple channels. By integrating both online and offline transactions, these unified commerce solutions allow smaller retailers to compete with larger businesses, ensuring they remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market. “I think where we see the market going is really an increased combination between on and offline, that being one experience, one digital connected experience that merchants will pivot towards, and then we are positioning the company to be there where the market is going and help our merchants get there as well,” said Bueninck.
Merchants in Luxembourg value the convenience of working with a single provider. By offering an all-in-one platform that combines POS systems with online payment solutions, Unzer enables merchants to focus on growing their businesses while relying on the company’s expertise to handle complex payment and commerce needs. “We offer a full PSP gateway, in-house acquiring, in-house binoculars, and we even have a data collection company in the group, which means that all the services you might need, no matter where you want to to sell, whether it’s online, offline, on the phone, in a vending machine, whatever it is, you can get that from one shop,” said Bueninck. This approach has been well-received and aligns with Unzer’s mission to empower merchants by simplifying their operations and creating a seamless commerce ecosystem.
“Luxembourg is a part of the growth of the entity and how serious we are in the business about expanding.”

Future vision
Unzer’s vision extends beyond simplifying payments. The company is committed to streamlining the entire merchant value chain by providing integrated payment and software solutions that address every aspect of retail operations. From mobile point-of-sale systems for in-store use to secure online transactions and digitized business processes, Unzer ensures that merchants have the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Unzer serves more than 85,000 merchants across Europe with local expertise and personalized service. Its operations span key markets such as Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Luxembourg, supported by a diverse team of over 750 professionals representing 55 nationalities. In 2023 alone, Unzer processed 331 million transactions, amounting to a transaction volume of €19.7 bi, while generating €206m in revenue.
As a licensed financial institution in Germany, Luxembourg, and Denmark, Unzer operates under the supervision of the Bundesbank and BaFin in Germany, the CSSF in Luxembourg, and the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority. This regulatory framework displays its commitment to security, compliance, and trustworthiness across all markets. “Luxembourg is a part of the growth of the entity and how serious we are in the business about expanding. What I have to say is that every time I go to a store and I see on the terminal the Unzer colors and logo, it’s a little bit of a moment of pride,” said Bueninck.
With its new Munsbach office, Unzer reinforces its commitment to Luxembourg and its merchants, while leveraging location as a means for expansion and growth. “So what we are really focusing on the next two years is doubling down on our strategy. We have built the connectivity between the platforms and we are now really looking into bringing that really to fruition and get a lot of traction in our core markets with that. So one, in our largest market, size-wise of course Germany, we’re looking to really, really double down on bringing that connected offering to the market,” said Bueninck.
