There’s no denying that podcasts have taken off in recent years. As of December 2021, there were more than 500K active podcasts on Apple Podcasts. 68 million Americans listen to podcasts weekly, and in France as of September 2021, around 3 million people listened to podcasts monthly. So, whether you’re looking to learn something new or just be entertained, there are plenty to choose from. Especially when it comes to tech-focused podcasts.

Whilst Luxembourg is emerging as an interesting tech hub in Europe, there are still only a few home-grown podcasts on this topic. This leaves plenty of opportunities for local tech enthusiasts to fill the gap. In the meantime, here are 10 – local and international – to get you started.

Accidental Tech Podcast

This is one of the most popular tech podcasts, regularly featuring in many top ten lists. Originally starting out as a podcast about cars, it quickly turned to all things tech, covering topics from electric cars, drones and Apple, to more hardcore programming. Hosted by three developers, the podcast addresses technical topics in a humorous way, often with some inside jokes. So, it’s probably a podcast for the more geeky tech-lovers out there.

HITEC Luxembourg

This is a brand new podcast with only one episode available to date, but with the promise of a journey through the world of technology and innovation, it might be worth keeping an eye on it. HITEC Luxembourg offers technology solutions covering different business areas, from satellite ground segment to equipment for testing and measuring of physical properties, to traffic management and mission critical. This first episode looks at carbon black with their Chief Business Developer, Andrea Mirandola.

LuxUnplugged

I’m slightly cheating here, as this is technically a business podcast. But it’s almost impossible to cover the world of business and not consider the impact of technology. As a result, there are a lot of interesting episodes that overlap the two areas, including the future of digital transformation, recruiting talent in the digital age, and a new series focusing on the space industry within the country. This podcast “is here to shed light on Luxembourg’s global influence from the perspective of two Luxembourgers living in London.” They interview a wide range of business leaders in Luxembourg, including our very own Charles-Louis Machuron.

They combine sharp commentary and bold predictions with light hearted banter to create an engaging listen. Reply All

This American podcast is a veteran of tech podcasts, having been around for almost eight years. The hosts and a range of journalists cover everyday topics in an engaging way, from dodgy call-centre scams, to stories about people getting their social media accounts hacked. A regular feature “Yes, Yes, No”, aims to teach their GenX/Boomer boss about internet trends and slang with often hilarious results. According to The Guardian, Reply All is “A podcast about the internet that is actually an unfailingly original exploration of modern life and how to survive it.”

Like their events and inspirational presentations, TED Tech shares unique stories that explore the way tech shapes how we think about society, science, design, business, and more. From the potential dangers of surveillance tech and the next step in virtual assistants, to why we have emotional connections with robots. Topic experts from around the world share their knowledge in roughly ten-minute bites every Friday, making it the perfect listen for a short commute or your morning coffee break.

The Technically Human Podcast

Taking a slightly different approach to the tech industry than other podcasts, this one focuses on the ethics of technology. Specifically, how to be human in the age of tech. It’s easy to see the financial opportunities that technology and innovation can bring, but it’s important not to forget who it should ultimately serve, and the values it should seek to follow. Each weekly episode features interviews with industry leaders, thinkers, writers, and technologists, and asks how they understand the relationship between humans and the technologies we create.
