Launched at Luxembourg’s Foire de l’étudiant, student.lu brings together internships, student jobs and first jobs, helping young people discover employers and the opportunities they offer.
Finding a first professional opportunity can be difficult for young people who do not already have contacts in the workplace. Luxembourg’s new platform student.lu aims to make internships, student jobs and first jobs easier to discover by bringing vacancies and information about employers together in one place.
“Young people do not always know where to look or which companies to approach. Without a network, some opportunities remain difficult to discover. With student.lu, we want to make these opportunities more visible and help young people take their first step into working life”, says Patrick Kersten, founder of student.lu
The platform officially launched on Thursday 29 October at the 40th Foire de l’étudiant at La Coque in Luxembourg-Kirchberg. It is aimed at young residents, Luxembourg students studying abroad, international and cross-border students, and employers looking to recruit young talent.
Rather than presenting vacancies alone, student.lu gives each employer a profile describing its activities and occupations, with photos and videos featuring employees. The aim is to help young people learn what companies do and discover roles they may not have considered. Vacancies are organised by job type and occupation, and link directly to the employer’s application form.
Users can also follow companies and receive their latest vacancies by email. The platform allows candidates to submit unsolicited applications, giving them a way to approach employers even when a suitable vacancy is not yet available.

Twenty employers are listed at launch, including Banque de Luxembourg, BIL, Cactus, CFL, Foyer, Lalux Assurances, POST Luxembourg, Proximus Luxembourg, RTL Group, Spuerkeess and Voyages Emile Weber. The participating organisations represent a range of sectors, from finance and insurance, to retail, transport, telecommunications, media and professional services.
For employers, the platform offers a channel to introduce their activities and career opportunities to young talent.
Student.lu also focuses on Luxembourg students who are completing their studies abroad. By following employers and learning about their occupations while they are still studying, they can prepare for a possible return and identify potential opportunities before graduation. For companies, this provides a way to reach young people educated elsewhere in Europe, including multilingual candidates who retain links to Luxembourg.
Alongside vacancies, the website includes an employment guide in French, German and English. Recent legislative changes have made rules around internships and student jobs harder for some young people and employers to navigate. The guide explains compulsory and voluntary internships, contract types, pay, and relevant steps involved, using accessible language and practical examples to outline rights and obligations.
Student.lu was founded by Luxembourg digital entrepreneur Patrick Kersten, founder of atHome in 2000 and the medical appointment platform Doctena in 2013. He also founded Pulse, the Luxembourg Startups Association, in 2023.
The launch adds a dedicated place to explore early-career opportunities, learn about employers and understand the rules that apply when taking that first step into working life.
