MIT Professor and author Bill Aulet held his third two-day Disciplined Entrepreneurship (DE) Masterclass in Luxembourg, organised by the University of Luxembourg Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme.

The event, which was attended by over 160 people, covered the 24 steps required to build successful high-potential ventures, based on Bill’s experience of supporting entrepreneurs at the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship.

Over 230 people applied to attend the event, which had previously sold out on two occasions. Bill spoke at a reception organised in his honour, in the presence of the Rector of the University of Luxembourg, Jens Kreisel, and Ambassador of the United States, Thomas Barrett, stressing the importance of entrepreneurship to drive impact in sustainability, healthcare, and digital transformation.

Attendees of the masterclass included investors, entrepreneurs, mentors, startups, researchers, faculty members, and corporate leaders. Dr. Sakthivel Sundharam, Programme and Innovation Manager at Fonds National de la Recherche, praised the masterclass for its structured and academic teaching of entrepreneurship, recommending it to FNR JUMP applicants.

A tenured professor in Experimental polymer physics, Jan Lagerwall, described the masterclass as an “extremely useful tool” for university spin-offs, finding Bill “fantastic, very helpful and inspiring”. Organisers of the workshop series believe that Bill’s expertise is unique, providing a breath of fresh air for the region.

Disciplined Entrepreneurship: Who’s Got It?

The University of Luxembourg Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme were created five years ago to inspire innovation and support entrepreneurial minds within its student and researcher community.

Manager of the University of Luxembourg Entrepreneurship Programme, Siva Bactavatchalou, praised Bill for “fill[ing] the void” in the narrow concepts offered to entrepreneurs, providing a “roadmap through the messy and confusing process of starting a business”.

The masterclass provides structure and practical applications of tools, while remaining inspiring, demystifying entrepreneurship, and defeating fears. Pranjul Shah, Manager of the University of Luxembourg Incubator, hailed the success of the event and the international partnerships it has created.

Bill Aulet is the Managing Director of Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship and a Professor of the Practice of Entrepreneurship at MIT Sloan School of Management. He has a 25-year successful business career, raising over $100 million and creating hundreds of millions of dollars of shareholder value through his companies. Since 2009, he has led the development of entrepreneurship education across MIT at the Trust Center. Bill has previously held two DE Masterclasses in Luxembourg, both of which were sold out.
