Crypto exchange Bitstamp has promoted its Europe CEO to global CEO.

The firm announced the appointment of Jean-Baptiste Graftieaux to succeed Julian Sawyer in a press release on Monday.

Graftieaux, who previously worked as managing director of eBay Europe, first worked for Bitstamp from 2014 to 2016 when he was hired as chief compliance officer, and was responsible for obtaining regulatory licences for the EU-based business and operations.

He rejoined the company in May 2021 as Europe CEO and, according to the firm, has helped accelerate Bitstamp’s growth in Europe by securing partnerships and growing the firm’s headcount to over 500.

“JB was with Bitstamp in its early days, and has admirably led our European business over the past year. We’re pleased to welcome a CEO with such an impressive track record, and very much look forward to the contribution and perspective he will bring to the company in his new role,” said Nicolas Huss, chairman of the board of directors of Bitstamp.

In recent months, Bitstamp launched Bitstamp-as-a-Service in the North and South America regions. The service, which has been available to European clients for the past five years, helps financial institutions provide simple and secure digital asset exposure to their customers. Bitstamp also obtained registrations and licences in North America and Europe and established partnerships with banks and institutions to expand the reach of its services.
