Estonian e-taxi app Bolt intends to expand in Luxembourg. The Tallinn-headquartered unicorn is already in talks with local drivers and was the second-most downloaded app in the country in May.

The app-taxi market in the grand duchy is growing, with Bolt’s arrival marking the third player entering the scene, after Uber and LetzRide. The Estonian company, with more than 150 million users in over 45 countries in Europe and Africa, is in touch with “several dozen taxi drivers who have expressed interest in joining the platform”, states a press release. Bolt has not outright stated it will launch in Luxembourg but is rather expressing its interest in the market.

“Our rapid expansion in Europe has shown that users are looking for high-quality shared mobility services, and we firmly believe that Luxembourg is no exception.”

Julien Mouyeket, managing director of Bolt France and Belgium.

Bolt has a solid base of Luxembourg customers who use their services in other countries, highlighted Mouyeket. And although the company hasn’t started offering its services in the grand duchy yet, it claims that its app was the second most downloaded one in Luxembourg in May.

Bolt’s announcement comes one week after its competitor Uber began operating in Luxembourg. It does so jointly with e-taxi platform Webtaxi, which mobility minister Yuriko Backes used to order the very first Uber ride in the grand duchy on 18 June. Bolt will have to vie for a share of the market with car sharing and solo trip service LetzRide, which celebrated its inauguration on 18 June as well. The latter is supported by travel companies Sales-Lentz, Demy Schandeler, and Josy Clement.
