As the winner of Amazon’s Sustainability Accelerator in the Circular Economy cohort, Luxembourg battery upcycling startup Circu Li-ion will initially pilot its solution with Amazon for 6 months before earning the chance at wider partnerships and potential investments.

Circu Li-ion and Amazon are working together to extend the lifespan of batteries used in Amazon’s logistics processes. By more effectively reusing batteries from electric vehicles, Amazon aims to reduce the demand for new batteries and thus lower the associated carbon footprint. The collaboration not only helps Amazon reduce the need for new batteries but also positions Circu Li-ion as a model for other companies, such as those looking to electrify their logistics.

Having been selected as one of eleven innovative businesses in Amazon’s Sustainability Accelerator, Circu Li-ion gained important insights into how global companies implement sustainability initiatives.

“Our participation in the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator is driven by our goal to revolutionise the battery industry and recycle three billion batteries by 2040.”

Antoine Welter, CEO and co-founder of Circu Li-ion

Since its inception in 2022, the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator has supported over 40 startups, provided more than €1m in grants and loans, and helped companies increase their revenue by an average of 700%.
