The Luxembourg battery upcycling startup adds another accolade to an already impressive year and is the only European startup to figure among the top 10 of the competition.

Luxembourg and the Startup World Cup are becoming fast friends. This year marks the second year in a row that a Luxembourg startup has made the top 10 in Pegasus Venture’s global competition (last year it was ANote Music).

Great news for Luxembourg and even better news for Circu Li-ion, the battery upcycler which recently announced its €8.5m Seed and was crowned Luxembourg’s Creative Young Entrepreneur 2023.

“This is a great stamp of approval for us and clearly shows that European deep tech companies can compete in the US.”

Antoine Welter, CEO and co-founder of the company.

While the competition was ultimately won by Aillis, a Japanese health tech that was awarded a nice check of $1m, Circu Li-ion was the only European startup that made the top 10 of the competition. Encouraging news for Luxembourg and European tech, which, as Antoine commented “is just as good as US tech, we just need to be more entrepreneurial.”
