He arrived in Luxembourg two years ago to manage the local entity of the Italian startup and enable it to obtain the e-money license necessary for its development and operations in Europe. Additionally, during the last three years Clemente was in charge of the legal structure of the Italian company’s investment rounds, including the latest €93 million Series C round.
A new year and therefore a new challenge for Clemente Sardi who joins Giftable and the team of ten people. Moreover, these are two main objectives that are already on the to-do list of the new Chief Operating Officer. On the one hand, there is the structuring of the company and the intensive recruitment of new profiles for both the Luxembourg office and the next international offices. On the other hand, there is the preparation of the next fundraising round to accelerate international expansion.
The startup is today financed by a group of business angels. Investor relations, corporate governance and strategic partnerships are also among the business operations Sardi will oversee. Clemente Sardi also becomes co-founder of the company alongside Michel Hoffmann. The two men met last year and immediately shared the same vision for the project. At the time, the project had not launched, but the desire to « make it big » brought them together.
“I am convinced that Giftable has the potential to evolve and expand into new sectors and territories. We have a great team. It’ll be an exciting adventure!”
“Clemente will bring his first-hand experience in managing a startup within the European context plus the technical know-how needed to structure and lead complex fundraising processes,” says Michel Hoffmann, CEO and Founder of Giftable. “We want Giftable to be a successful company not only in economic terms; we also believe it can have a tangible social impact by bringing together the community and supporting local businesses.”
The rest of the story is now being written together. “We have to build on the good traction we have had since the launch a few days ago. The momentum is excellent to help merchants strengthen their online presence and users discover more offers. Our B2B offering is also ready for employers to use our app. It’s a great product,” concludes Clemente Sardi. “Furthermore, I am convinced that Giftable has the potential to evolve and expand into new sectors and territories. We have a great team. It’ll be an exciting adventure!”
Giftable currently has more than 60 partners in its network to date with over 150 shops active in Luxembourg and more than 300 experiences that can be gifted. Downloading and using the app is free for users, and merchants do not have any set up fees or running subscription costs. Merchants have access to a 24/7 digital store-front and a potential increase in foot traffic, new customers and loyalty whilst users benefit from an online-to-offline experience.
