Digitalisation In Construction: Towards A Common Language For BIM?

Digitalization has impacted all sectors, including the construction sector. At the center of it all lies Building Information Modelling (BIM) which must consider how to develop uniform standards to for international cooperation.

In this context, BIM is one of the main challenges facing professionals in the sector. Indeed, all the parameters of a construction must be integrated into a common digital model to facilitate the use of data and exchanges between the various trades.

Technical standardization allows construction actors to coordinate themselves, at national, European and international levels. Today, the following two technical committees are responsible for developing standards for BIM:

  • ISO/TC 59/SC 13 – Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM);
  • CEN/TC 442 – Building Information Modelling (BIM).

The video below presents the existing European standards and indicates how to consult them for free or to buy them. It also serves as a reminder of the possibilities for Luxembourg-based companies to share their know-how, influence the content of future normative documents and exchange with international experts by becoming a national delegate in standardization.
