Around 60 people from the Luxembourg healthtech ecosystem gathered at the House of BioHealth for a comprehensive examination of the state of health tech on 17 January.

The event, which coincided with the launch of Silicon Luxembourg’s Healthtech edition, focused on the opportunities and challenges for startups within the local ecosystem.

House of BioHealth CEO Jean-Paul Scheuren kicked off the evening with an overview of the site’s extension and the eagerly awaited Health And Lifescience Innovation campus planned for 2024.

Three roundtable discussions examined the progress Luxembourg has made in the digital transformation of the health sector, the importance of the ecosystem to sustain that transformation and the various initiatives supporting innovation.

“Change won’t happen by itself,” Carole Brückler, head of digital technologies at the ministry of economy, said, adding that the public sector cannot digitally transform the health sector alone. Working with private sector companies can, she said, bring around quicker solutions.

The event was also an opportunity to outline some of the support mechanisms in place for health techs, including equity-free grants, the healthcare joint calls for clinical trials, the next of which will be launched on 1 February, and the next Fit 4 Innovation programme focusing on health tech markets.

Other speakers included: Carole Brückler of the ministry of economy, Camille Saettel of Simmons & Simmons, Frédéric Humblet of LuxTrust, Jean-Philippe Arié from the Luxembourg HealthTech Cluster, Frédéric Markus from Agence eSanté, Erica Monfardini from B Medical Systems, Dr Silvia Colucci of LCSB and Nicolas Di Prata from the European Investment Bank.

In between the discussions, eight startups gave pitches about their innovations, including Arspectra, E-mpact, ITTM, Nium, Organo Therapeutics and Voicemed
