Himoon, a Belgian dating app dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community, is now active in Luxembourg, via the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

The startup’s local platform connects people looking for a love relationship, friendship or just someone to chat with.

With a free version and a premium option, the solution aims to facilitate social interaction within the community in these times of confinement and isolation.

“There are few alternatives today for an LGBTQ+ person looking for more than the ephemeral side of a meeting. The app also allows you to remain discreet, because your profile picture is not visible to everyone,” explains Louis Dresse, the co-founder of the project.

An algorithm matches members who share similar interests in relation to the interaction sought (serious relationships, just chatting, we’ll see, etc.), their passions and descriptions.

Local collaborations

Aiming to be “inclusive and safe”, Himoon has collaborated closely with several associations of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Inter community.

“In addition to our political commitment, we support these kinds of social initiatives, which offer a nice alternative to meet real people in Luxembourg,” says Tom Hecker, its president.

Himoon also has partnerships in Belgium, with La Maison Arc-en-ciel in the province of Luxembourg, a place of welcome, conviviality and support for the LGBTQ+ community, and associations and organizations in Wallonia, such as Tels Quels, Genres Pluriels, or the RainbowHouse.

Launched in Belgium, Himoon’s mission is to offer new dating opportunities that “value personality and physicality”. The project is based on four values: welcoming everyone, boldness, authenticity and security.

The word “Hi” is derived from the English words “Hi” and “Moon”, combining romance and discovery.

Founded in 1996, Rosa Lëtzebuerg asbl provides support, advice and field expertise to the Luxembourg LGBTQ community.
