When people talk about social media marketing, content production, and even advertising, YouTube is often left out of the conversation. But why choose YouTube and what kind of content to produce for it?

Reasons to use YouTube

With its over 2 billion active users, YouTube is the second-most visited website in the world, topped only by its parent company, Google. It is also the second-most used social media platform after Facebook and the second largest search engine after, again, its mother company Google.

YouTube reaches people from very different age groups. While the people in the age group of 15-35 are the most active with 77% using YouTube, the older generations are not far behind. The lowest reach is in the age group of the people over the age of 55 with 67% using the platform. YouTube reaches the age group 18-34 better than television. Despite YouTube being most popular with the younger generations, 33% of baby boomers use it to learn more about a product or a service. Across all age groups, 70% of viewers bought from a brand after seeing it on YouTube.

Everything starts with

The most important thing on YouTube are the videos. When starting to do YouTube, you need plenty of videos. Plan ahead and give time for the production. Content needs to be uploaded actively if YouTube is done as proper content marketing, not as a storage space for company videos.

Think about the content you already have. Edit your infographics and other material into videos, have the company experts explaining things to the audience, turn written interviews into videos, and so on.

Ask for engagement

Encourage people to engage with your content. Ask them a question or their opinion and encourage them to leave a comment in the comment section. Don’t forget to answer and like the comments and use them for future content. Make people feel like they belong to a community when watching and commenting on your videos.

Customize your channel

As YouTube is often used for information research, make sure your channel looks like your brand. The visual style with headers, icons, and colours can – abd should – be customized.

Optimize your video titles

As mentioned earlier, YouTube is a search engine, and the search works very much like on Google. Put some thought to your titles, just like done with blogs. Do some keyword analyzing and find the best titles. Instead of saying, “a new mattress in the market”, use titles like “sleep better every night with the right mattress”.

Collaborate with other people

Collaborations can be done in cooperation with influencers, other companies and organizations, or your customers. With other businesses, with one filming both parties can get material from different angles than can be then used later on, while still benefiting from the material the other company has done. Customer testimonials are a great way to create simple video content while boosting your credibility, and collaborations with influencers can have a massive impact on your brand and sales.
