In Residence At The Dudelange Innovation Hub

Created in 2018, the Dudelange Innovation Hub is today home to 11 startups active in the field of ecotechnology. Three resident founders talk about working in such a specialised incubator.

Ecological consultancy WeThink were among the first tenants to move into the hub. “We wanted to work in the field of eco-technologies from the beginning and the whole team of Wethink grew up in Dudelange or have a strong connection to this city. So it was clear pretty quickly that this incubator would be perfect for us,” says CEO Luc Schmit.

His firm analyses the ecological footprint of clients and advises on ways to use energy, wood and plastics more sustainably. It also sells environmentally-friendly products that help lower a customer’s carbon footprint. Schmit says that the incubator offers huge potential for synergies and information sharing with other companies and public bodies like the city council of Dudelange. “Dudelange City has brought many startups to where they are today,” he says, adding that the commune, meanwhile, is the perfect testbed for piloting new projects and products.

“Dudelange is in the south where a lot of our users are.”

Quentin de Madre, co-founder of Kidola

Childcare sector software creators Kidola are among the most-recent faces at the hub, having arrived in November 2021. Their technology, which helps daycare centres go paperless and simplify administration and communication, is used in 150 places in France Belgium and Luxembourg. “Dudelange is in the south where a lot of our users are,” says Kidola co-founder Quentin de Madre. He was seduced by the competitive rent, parking possibilities and large office spaces that could host a rapidly growing team: “Our number of employees will double over the next 5 months.” De Madre says that the cross-pollination at the hub is invaluable as is the opportunity to develop partnerships with the commune.

Co-founder of biodegradable laundry detergent manufacturer Wasch Nicolas Devaux agrees the hub fosters knowledge sharing and synergies. His firm moved into the hub in October 2021 because it was the “most adapted incubator for us as it is dedicated to green technology startups.” Among the advantages he cites the parking, storage solutions, spacious offices and meeting rooms, competitive rents and public partnership opportunities. And he appreciates the hub’s support in nurturing the startup, particularly when it comes to fundraising, marketing and boosting exposure.
