#‎IoT: ‬Startup EVVOS Connects Any Sensor To The Internet

Internet of Things is one of those new buzzwords we hear more and more often nowadays. But it is much more than a buzzword; it is a trend about to change our lives. An innovative Luxembourg-based startup has found a way to connect any sensor to the Internet. This month EVVOS organizes a Product Launch Event at Technoport. During the event EVVOS will announce a new line of SIGFOX-enabled battery powered wireless devices, a cloud-based sensor platform, and a set of APIs. We asked EVVOS Founder Georgi Taskov to detail the innovation and how it is disrupting the market.

We launch a line of SIGFOX-enabled battery powered wireless devices, a cloud-based sensor platform, and a set of APIs.

What is the purpose of your startup, EVVOS?

EVVOS enables businesses, local governments, and publicly funded organizations to easily connect any sensor or sensor network to the Internet.

We help Clients achieve their objectives by providing innovative products and services based on already existing IoT – and M2M – dedicated cellular networks. There is no need to invest in infrastructure. There are no roaming charges. Every device is shipped with built-in connectivity and does not require complicated setup procedures or SIM cards.

To transmit data from and to its devices EVVOS uses Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) radio technology from SIGFOX – provider of a dedicated cellular connectivity for the IoT and M2M. A global Low-Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) is already available in several countries in Europe and it is currently being deployed in the USA. Pre-deployment tests are in-progress in the Middle East, Asia and South America.

EVVOS is Microsoft Partner Network and BizSpark member. The company has also being granted the “SIGFOX ReadyTM Platform as a Service” accreditation and is about to receive its “SIGFOX ReadyTM Certification for End Products” (pending lab tests).

You already mentioned SIGFOX. What exactly is the SIGFOX technology?

SIGFOX is the only provider of dedicated cellular connectivity for Internet of Things and Machine-to-Machine communications. The company’s network complements existing high-bandwidth systems by providing economical, energy-efficient two-way transmission of small quantities of data, thus lowering barriers to wide implementation of IoT and M2M solutions, and greatly extending the battery and service life of connected devices.

Could you reveal a few details about the products you will launch in a few days?

On October 22nd EVVOS will launch a line of SIGFOX-enabled battery powered wireless devices, a cloud-based sensor platform, and a set of APIs; in addition, a support for over 10 different interfaces will be announced.

All devices we are announcing are built to withstand harsh in- and outdoor conditions. Depending on the combination of use cases, connected sensors, and energy harvesting components, a device can function in self-sufficient mode – with no maintenance required – for up to several years.

EVVOS enables Clients to: quickly deploy sensors and immediately start collecting data; manage the life cycle of connected sensors; monitor the status of all deployed devices; store sensor data in the cloud or in on-premises databases; seamlessly create web and mobile apps relying on sensor data.

To you, what are the strengths of the Internet of Things?

The Internet of Things will make it feasible to collect in almost real time data from any object—machines, appliances, weather stations, air quality sensors, soil moisture probes—anything really. The benefit to all of us is that all those vast amounts of data will be analyzed and used to make better decisions, prevent machine failures even before they happen, predict energy consumption for a city, region, or country much more accurately than it is currently possible. We will experience a new level of efficiency that we do not think is possible today.

It is going to be a revolution in terms of innovation not only because of the new products that will be created but also because it will enable entirely new business models. It will probably be the biggest disruption of our lifetime.

What are the advantages of being incubated at Technoport?

We receive a great deal of support from Technoport in terms of advice, infrastructure and help in organizing the Product Launch Event. For us, it is very important to interact with researchers in Luxembourg and the fact that ERIN, LCSB, FRN and Luxinnovation are located in the immediate vicinity of Technoport, was a tipping point of deciding to work with this incubator.
