Following Franz Fayot’s working visit to Japan, JCR Pharmaceuticals, which specialises in the research, manufacture and sale of pharmaceuticals for the treatment of rare and genetic diseases, has decided to establish its European logistics platform in Luxembourg.

While initial contacts between the two parties already took place in 2017, the minister of economy and JCR Pharmaceuticals concluded their agreement on 2 December 2022 in Tokyo.

“We have been in discussions with Luxembourg for JCR’s strategic global expansion for several years. To adapt to the changing environment of the pharmaceutical industry, a phased approach was reasonable, such as establishing a European packaging, labelling and logistics centre for the global distribution of our investigational and commercial products beyond Japan,” said Shin Ashida, president and CEO of JCR.

The logistics platform will be built on a plot of land larger than 10,000 m2 in the Wolser economic activity zone between Bettembourg and Dudelange. It will house all of JCR’s packaging, labelling and shipping activities throughout Europe and beyond.

“The JCR project in Luxembourg underlines the attractiveness of Luxembourg as a strategic hub for international companies to access the European market and beyond. With the JCR project, we are strengthening two of our strategic sectors to diversify our economy: health technologies and logistics. The activities to be developed by JCR will complement the existing activities of LuxairCARGO’s Pharma Logistics Hub,” said Franz Fayot, minister of economy.

Listed on the stock exchange, JCR Pharmaceuticals employs around 800 people, had sales of €360M in 2021 and is active in the US, Europe, Asia an Latin America. As of yet the date of construction remains unclear.
