Virtual Rangers and The Dots launched the Luxembourg Metaverse on Wednesday, a virtual version of the country where businesses and people can move around and rent or buy space.

To make access as easy as possible, people do not need a crypto wallet to access the space or rent or buy dots. The virtual space can, meanwhile, be accessed with a VR headset, PC or phone.

“We wanted to have something easy and basic to use, where you can discover the Luxembourg ecosystem through easy connection,” said Matthieu Bracchetti, founder of VR creative studio Virtual Rangers, which took care of the technical development of the platform.

Journalists attended a press conference in the virtual space to mark the launch on Wednesday. Here they visited the landing page containing a conference room, from which there was a portal to visit the dots.

The concept of land or space ownership is developed through dots with smaller dots selling for €1,500 and larger, customisable dots available on a subscription basis for €100 per month.

At the time of the conference, some 13 customers had signed up for a dot and with new features being added in the coming weeks, more are expected to follow. Bracchetti said that customers spanned a range of sectors, including manufacture, culture, banking, insurance and museums.

“We want people to have more distractions in this metaverse”

“We want people to have more distractions in this metaverse. With lots of companies there have been some great exchanges on what will be inside the dots,” said Bracchetti, adding: “We will focus on tourism and we will go a bit further. Also, we would like people to discover Luxembourg and the food and media ecosystem.”

Wednesday’s demonstration was a small-scale version of what is possible and the founder said that he expects the map to grow weekly.

Designed and built in Luxembourg, The Luxembourg Metaverse, is also available as a white label solution. Virtual Rangers and marketing as a service agency The Dots are currently in talks with four companies interested in having their own metaverses.

All customers will be offered technical support for tailoring their dot to their brand.

The Luxembourg Metaverse is the second major virtual world to be launched in Luxembourg, following The Duchy, which launched in January 2022.

Technology consulting firm Gartner predicts that by 2026 a quarter of the global population will be spending at least an hour in the metaverse each day. Some $120 billion has been invested in the sector since the start of 2022.
