The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Luxembourg Competition Authority are developing an AI-based digital assistant aimed at enhancing competition law enforcement.

AI is seeping into the corners of every industry and the legal world is not exempt. LIST and Competition Authority have collaborated to address the increasing challenges posed by the growing volume of data critical to competition law. By integrating advanced AI technologies into the legal workflow, the partnership hopes to streamline investigations and enforcement processes.

“As the digitization of the economy accelerates, competition authorities are increasingly confronted with new complex challenges,” said Marco Estanqueiro, vice president of the Luxembourg Competition Authority. “This collaboration marks a pivotal step in safeguarding open and competitive markets for businesses and consumers alike in the digital age.”

The digital assistant will be developed using LIST’s AI-driven tools and methodologies, including its BESSER Bot Framework and Papyrus data visualization tool, both supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

“The development process will incorporate continuous user feedback to ensure the new digital assistant meets the needs of the Competition Authority. By integrating AI, data visualization, and user-friendly interfaces, LIST aims to create a robust solution tailored for legal professionals,” said Francesco Ferrero, head of LIST’s Flagship Initiative on Artificial Intelligence.
