Luxembourg Launches New Cybersecurity Master

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in cybersecurity (CYBERUS) will be organised together with the Université Bretagne Sud and Université Libre de Bruxelles. A small step to address the huge of cybersecurity skills shortage.

The University of Luxembourg has recently launched the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in cybersecurity (CYBERUS). The Master programme was set up with the Université Bretagne Sud and Université Libre de Bruxelles.

The first two semesters will take place at the Université de Bretagne Sud. It will focus on the fundamentals based on an interdisciplinary approach to cybersecurity.

Participants will learn to design and develop secure products and security architectures and test the resistance of software products and embedded systems to the latest cyberthreats.

During the third semester, learners will be given two choices. Either choose the IoT cybersecurity section (at the Université Libre de Bruxelles), where they will focus on security of digital objects and equipment, as well as of network connections.

Or choose the software cybersecurity option (at the University of Luxembourg), where they will focus on security of applications, systems and programming.

During the fourth semester, students will complete an internship in the field of cybersecurity within a company or in a research lab.

“A Master in cybersecurity is an excellent pathway into this booming industry.”

Double degree in IoT or Software

At the end of their Master, students will receive a double degree from the Université de Bretagne Sud and the Université Libre de Bruxelles or the University of Luxembourg depending on their specialisation.

Beyond obtaining two Masters within 2 years, when they graduate students will be equipped with knowledge from a diverse panel of experts convened by several institutions across different European countries.

“This Master is a testimony that the University of Luxembourg is focused on achieving its mission of delivering relevant talent to the evolving challenges which Luxembourg and, even the European, economy and society are facing. By joining forces across three European countries, and with the support of the EU Commission through the Erasmus Programme, the Master will train highly-skilled future operatives and managers in the cybersecurity landscape”, comments Prof. Tegawendé Bissyandé, course director of the CYBERUS Master.

“Another small step in the right direction to address the huge of cybersecurity skills shortage,” said Pascal Steichen, CEO of the LHC (Luxembourg House of Cybersecurity) and Chairperson of the ECCC Governing Board. “Happy to welcome the students in Luxembourg soon.”

Importance of training in cybersecurity

“A Master in cybersecurity is an excellent pathway into this booming industry. With cyber-attacks occurring increasingly across all sectors, professionals with the skills to defend individuals, companies, and governments from such threats are in exceptionally high demand,” the University of Luxembourg said in a press release.

The two-year full-time Master programme is taught in English. The annual registration fee is €4,500, some scholarships are available. Applications are open until 5 February 2023.
