On Friday 26 November, the 10 FinTechs participating in the accelerator Catapult: Kickstarter Fall 2021 pitched for the chance to win up to €50.000 in subsidies. A week later, the 5 lucky winners have been announced. The FinTechs will use these subsidies to pursue their development in Luxembourg.

With 180 applicants, 10 participants and 5 winners, Catapult: Kickstarter remains as competitive as ever.

“The ten participating firms were outstanding businesses with significant relevance to the Luxembourg financial centre, addressing some key challenges of and opportunities for local actors. Critically, it is great that all ten firms have already advanced in discussions with potential Luxembourg clients and partners,” says Nasir Zubairi, CEO of the LHoFT Foundation.

Keeping Luxembourg’s advantages in mind, this year’s fall edition focused on delivering services to financial institutions (B2B), with particular emphasis on Insurtech, DeFi, AI, Regtech, Fundtech, B2C payments, as well as ESGs.

With only two weeks to the programme, the 10 participants were under pressure to develop their business models and figure out how to manage risk and scale their businesses. However, with classroom tutorials, expert talks, one-on-one meetings, pitching sessions and anything else they might need, the participants were well prepared.

“I am looking forward for the selected companies to launch operations in Luxembourg and contribute to the development and diversification of the local Fintech and startup ecosystem.”

Winning Big

Developed in close collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy in Luxembourg, Catapult: Kickstarter also benefits from access to a network of excellent partners.

This year, they included, among others, Compellio, Luxembourg For Finance (LFF), Expon Capital, and Middlegame Ventures (MGV). The partners were excellent aides in guiding them through business models, funding strategies and industry product testing.

While all participants impressed, at the end of the day only 5 can take home the prize. The winners of this year’s Catapult: Kickstarter Fall 2021 are:
