This is the story of a new startup launched today in Luxembourg and which provides drivers with detailed information on their driving style. Motion-S builds flexible, intuitive and intelligent telematics solutions to make your driving experience smarter, safer and more efficient. We asked the two founders German Castignani et Raphael Frank to tell us more about this new mobile app they are working on since months and that will be available for Androïd and iOS.
What is the purpose of your mobile app, Motion-S?
The basic idea behind Motion-S is to use smartphones as a telematics device to provide drivers with detailed information on their driving style. To do so, we rely solely on the information of embedded sensors (e.g. accelerometer, magnetometer and GPS) which are now common in modern Smartphones.
How did you come up with this idea?
We realized that similar applications on the market where using static models to detect driving maneuvers. As a result they do not provide fair and comparable driving scores. Our technique uses a dynamic machine learning algorithm that takes the context of the driver into account. More specifically, we build a statistical model that takes into account the car, the mobile device and of course the driving style of the user. This way we can also observe if the driver changes his behavior.
What solutions and services do you provide?
We provide tailor made telematics solutions using Smartphones and OBD dongles based on the needs of our customers.
What is your target market?
Our target markets are: insurance telematics and fleet management.
