The University of Luxembourg has appointed Prof. Yves Le Traon to take over as director of its ICT research centre, succeeding Prof. Björn Ottersten.

The newly appointed leader of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), will begin his role on 1 January 2024.

Prof Le Traon began his scientific career with a PhD in computer science at the “Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble” in 1997. According to the University of Luxembourg, his scientific activity is based on collaborations with other research institutions and industrial partners. Le Traon joined the University in 2009 and from 2009 to 2016 headed up its computer science department. He has served as deputy director of the SnT since 2020.

“I am pleased and proud that the recruitment committee, composed of international experts, has chosen a professor from the University of Luxembourg among the excellent applications received,” University of Luxembourg rector Jens Kreisel said, adding: “Prof. Le Traon will give a new impulse to the SnT, while ensuring the continuation of the ambitions of this interdisciplinary centre which, under the leadership of Prof. Ottersten, has been able to position itself as one of the University’s great successes.”

Prof. Ottersten is currently completing his third and final mandate of a fifteen-year career at the head of Snt. At the SnT partnership day, it was announced that he would remain at the university as a professor.
