The Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts have launched the House of Sustainability, an initiative aimed at guiding Luxembourg companies to integrate sustainability issues into their development strategies.

The House of Sustainability is a joint venture between the two chambers and the National Institute for Sustainable Development (INDR), which aims to accelerate and facilitate the sustainable transition of businesses. It proposes a range of services in collaboration with its partners, including training, awareness-raising and tailored support, to enable businesses to take action around the ten principles of sustainable development.

The House of Sustainability’s online platform provides businesses with the necessary information and orientation on sustainability in Luxembourg. The website informs businesses of existing labels, actors in the ecosystem and concrete actions to take. The House of Sustainability provides tailored information to businesses, including information on the regulatory framework, funding opportunities and labels that enable businesses to showcase their responsible engagement.

“The initiative was designed to represent the broadest possible range of economic actors.”

The House of Sustainability seeks to create a network of national actors experienced in the field of sustainability, sharing the common goal of supporting businesses through the challenges of sustainable transition. The initiative aims to mobilise around this issue, using various means, tools and support mechanisms provided by partners. Its launch conference will take place on 21 April, with more than 300 participants expected to attend. The program includes a keynote, panel and business testimonies, a presentation of the House of Sustainability and themed sessions on the four main pillars of sustainable development: People, Planet, Governance and Prosperity.

Fernand Ernster, President of the Chamber of Commerce, explains that “the House of Sustainability was conceived and designed by the Chamber of Commerce within a specific working group on sustainable development set up by its plenary assembly from 2020 to 2022. The initiative was designed to represent the broadest possible range of economic actors, and so the Chamber of Commerce proposed that the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts and INDR (which brings together professional associations and federations) join the initiative”.

Tom Oberweis, President of the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts, praised the coordinated approach between the two chambers and other partners. The House of Sustainability is the result of inclusive and rigorous work conducted by the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts and INDR, and has the support of a broad network of experts and partners.

The official launch of the new House of Sustainability will take place on Friday 21 April 2023 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm in the new conference center of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (7 rue Alcide de Gasperi, Luxembourg-Kirchberg). The event will be attended by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and will feature the participation of Prof. Dr. Christian Berg, Member of the Club of Rome and former Chief Sustainability Architect at SAP, who will deliver the keynote address entitled: “Can sustainability drive innovation and improvement?

More than 300 participants are expected to attend the event, which will include a panel discussion, company testimonials and the presentation of the House of Sustainability. The program of the event is available here.
