The pioneer of 5G IoT satellite services is one of the first spacetechs in the country to be granted this licence that will facilitate future satellite launches and operations.

In addition to its existing license for the satellites already in orbit, this licence allows OQ Technology to provide its IoT and machine-to-machine connectivity services with all additional satellites, yet to be launched. Furthermore, the spacetech will be able to register its satellites in Luxembourg’s national registry of space objects.

“We are very grateful to the team at Luxembourg Space Agency and the Ministry of Economy for including us in the new framework and authorising our space activity. We are very confident we will contribute heavily and make a good example of a space company pursuing the sustainable space objectives within its global satellite constellation,” said CEO and founder Omar Qaise.

Since establishing a new legal framework for the authorisation and supervision of space activities in 2020, Luxembourg requires companies wanting to engage in space activities to obtain this licence. This allows Luxembourg to better manage risks related to space activities and state liability, both of which are becoming increasingly important as space debris keeps accumulating.

It not only contributes to providing a safe and attractive environment for operators, investors, and entrepreneurs, but it also has the potential to become a valuable tool for the economic development of Luxembourg’s space sector.

Finally, the framework allows the ministry of economy and the LSA to register space objects launched into outer space in its National Register of Space Objects for which it assumes partial responsibility under the Convention on Registration of Objects Launched into Outer Space.
