Founded in 2014 by CEO and founder Sissel Hansen, Startup Guide is a publishing company whose mission it is ‘to guide, empower and inspire people to start their own business anywhere’. The idea for the company was born when Sissel Hansen first moved to Berlin to start his own company and realised how hard it was to locate the relevant information.

After observing the success of the Startup Guide Germany, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce first approached the editor in 2018 to discuss the possibilities of publishing an edition about the thriving Luxembourg startup ecosystem. They quickly came to an agreement and published the first edition of Startup Guide Luxembourg in 2018.

A guide for Luxembourg

Three years later, the two parties decided that enough time and new developments had happened to warrant the release of a second edition. According to the editors, this new edition provides all the latest information needed to navigate the Grand Duchy’s fresh and exciting ecosystem.

“Luxembourg has a lot to offer both aspiring and established entrepreneurs, and we’re thrilled to return to the country for a second edition,” says Sissel Hansen says.

Luxembourg is especially interesting for aspiring entrepreneurs because of its strong economic position and high quality of life. How these aspects have shaped the local startup community is further detailed in the book.

The rest of the book is littered with case studies, free expert advice, invaluable insights from experienced startuppers as well as a ton of other information meant to decode the Grand Duchy’s ecosystem to the novice and experienced founder.

The beating heart of the economy

Keeping the economy alive and thriving is one of the central functions of government. Fortunately for the local startup community, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce is not blind to the important role that startups play in pushing the economy along.

As its director general Carlo Thelen says, “entrepreneurs contribute to the well-being of society overall and are the driving force of the economy. It only follows that startups, as the fruit of entrepreneurial genius, are an integral part of that motor and must be supported in that role; this guide does just that.”

Starting a business is never easy and having a guide to a country’s ecosystem does not guarantee success – but it is a great place to start. Also, as part of Startup Guide’s partnership with One Tree Planted, your purchase will contribute to the planting of a tree. A true win-win.
