Drees & Sommer revitalize old buildings to help reduce carbon footprint.

Drees & Sommer, a German group specializing in consulting, design, construction and real estate management is renovating old buildings and bringing them up to the latest energy standards.

“We see the renovation of buildings as a major challenge in the fight against global warming. In the long run, every old building aspires to become sustainable, profitable, digital and innovative. To achieve this, we focus on optimizing the original qualities of the building, which we then adapt to today’s sustainability-related requirements,” explains Maximilien Ast, managing director of Drees & Sommer Luxembourg, in their press release.

The approach is based on the circular economy concept called of the cradle-to-cradle which favors the reuse of recycled and reusable materials.

“In Europe, the building sector accounts for more than a third of energy consumption, but also of CO2 emissions,” adds Maximilien Ast.

To mark the occasion, the consulting firm is publishing a dossier on the renovation and revitalization of existing real estate: “Revitalize rather than destroy” dossier.

Founded in 1970 in Stuttgart, Drees & Sommer specializes in consulting, design and management of real estate and infrastructure projects. Internationally, it employs 3,820 people in 46 locations.

Drees & Sommer has been present in Luxembourg since 2003 and has 90 employees.
