Recruitment Challenges For Construction Scale-Up Steel Shed Solutions

Founded in 2001, the Luxembourg-based Steel Shed Solutions is a digital platform for the sale of steel kit buildings. Steel Shed Solutions sells functional, low-cost, easy-to-assemble buildings suitable for, among other things, storage, livestock sheds, industrial buildings and equestrian facilities.

How have the recent price surges of raw materials affected your company from a HR perspective?

The year 2020 has been full of challenges for Steel Shed Solutions: rising [prices of] raw materials, health crisis, and even the Ever Given container ship blocking the Suez Canal (and preventing us from delivering to our customers in East Africa for a few weeks).

However, we have been able to maintain growth, in particular thanks to our teams and partners who have been able to mobilize themselves for our customers. With 50 employees in Bertrange, the group continues to recruit in its various departments.

What profiles are you looking for in your company and how do you source them?

Anyone who wants to exercise responsibilities and to invest in his place at Steel Shed Solutions. For us, the important thing is not necessarily the experience previously acquired (we leave the chance to the “young”), but the personality, the ability to understand, adapt and evolve. Diversity is part of the group’s experience. We seek to attract the best talent across all departments to create an environment in which each of us is encouraged to learn and grow.

We have positions open in various departments such as sales (business developer without prospecting, sales assistant), technical (steel construction draftsman/calculator) and marketing/digital. Whether it is an internship or a permanent contract, we have recruited several employees for the year 2021. Some of them started as interns and then signed a permanent contract!

To do this, we use several job boards, social networks, direct approach and even ads on Silicon Luxembourg. In addition, we have a website dedicated to recruitment: rh.group-3s.com.

Have you set up an Academy? Can you tell us more about how it works and how it fits into your training efforts?

We support employees on a daily basis to help them succeed in their jobs. We also offer internal and external training so that each employee feels invested in his or her work. Our goal is to encourage and value them so that they can achieve their goals.

Currently in the midst of evolution projects, we are working intensely on our employer brand through our 4 major values: Customer focus, agility, belonging, responsibility and commitment.

What are your recruitment tips for digital construction companies?

Do not have a recruitment process that is too long: indeed, candidates can quickly make their decisions, so the company must also be able to make its choice without delay.

The interview is also very important. Nowadays, we don’t take enough time to meet candidates in person, yet it makes all the difference. This is why we prioritize this approach.

What are your HR development priorities for 2022?

As mentioned earlier, we have taken advantage of the lock-up to carry out a number of workshops with the aim of developing our organization to support our growth.

We are therefore opening a new chapter in our history, and the HR department is very motivated by the idea of deploying a number of tools for the benefit of all.
