In this interview, Marc Lis, MyConnectivity’s Head of Marketing & Communication, discusses the transformative impact of the Future Workshop on Luxembourg’s connectivity. Aligned with the country’s broadband strategy, the workshop involves a conference exploring trends and technological advancements, setting the stage for impactful student engagement.

How does MyConnectivity’s Future Workshop aim to shape Luxembourg’s connectivity?

The Future Workshop contributes to Luxembourg’s ultra-high-speed broadband strategy 2021-2025 , by stressing the importance of connectivity and showcasing innovation and future trends.

Overall, the project itself is split into 2 distinctive parts across 6 months.

Our conference on the 14th of December will be the point of departure to explore new ideas to shape and build a more connected tomorrow. By bringing together experts, who share their insights on current trends and technological advancements, we want to trigger reflections and inspire our audience by creating a fertile ground for new perspectives and ideas to flourish.

The second part of the project is a unique opportunity to inspire and guide the next generation of innovators by actively involving students in discussions that will shape the future of communication infrastructures.

“As of early next year, 30 students will have the opportunity to take part in a hackathon and develop their very own idea of a connected future for Luxembourg.”

What sets the Future Workshop apart in engaging experts to explore innovative connectivity solutions collaboratively?

The conference, aptly titled “The Future of Communication Infrastructures,” will explore crucial topics encompassing 5G, space, and fixed networks. The broad and diverse expertise of our panelists will help explore new ideas for a connected future for Luxembourg, which will be collected and published in a White Paper.

The Future Workshop will also give birth to our “Connectivity Lab”, consisting of a whole ecosystem providing technological and intellectual support to the prototyping of the students’ ideas.

Additionally, thanks to our partnership with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, we will be able to showcase 6 live demos, ranging from private and Open 5G Networks and connectivity for Industrial Networks to IoT, 5G, and Satellite for Smart Agriculture.

What outcomes are expected in envisioning Luxembourg’s future connectivity?

Our Future Workshop will kick-start the ideation process for our audience and the participating students.

Not only will this collaborative approach put students in touch with Luxembourg’s telecommunication and science ecosystem, but it will be a launchpad, allowing them to gain access to professional coaching and refine their ideas to prototype-level. We expect to see the birth of 5 prototypes by June 2024.

As of early next year, 30 students will have the opportunity to take part in a hackathon and develop their very own idea of a connected future for Luxembourg.

MyConnectivity’s mission is to accelerate the country’s progress towards digitalisation and connectivity and to ensure that everyone who lives and works in Luxembourg can participate in this development. MyConnectivity is a politically, commercially and technologically neutral entity initiated by the Luxembourg government and LU-CIX GIE in December 2021.
