Students In The Shadow: Jonk Entrepreneuren Appeal

Luxembourg’s training camp for future entrepreneurs is appealing for local managers to take a budding Steve Jobs or Arianna Huffington under their wing.

This year’s job shadow day takes place on 28 March when scores of 16 to 19-year-olds will get a taste of life as a manager in a local company.

“It’s a win-win for companies and students,” says Laurene Kroon of Jonk Entrepreneuren, Luxembourg’s non-profit organisation which boosts entrepreneurship in education. “Having a young person in a company brings a lot of joy,” she adds.

Last year, the programme attracted some 100 learners to Luxembourg employers. This year, the organisation hopes to expand the experience by on-boarding new employers to the scheme.

To qualify, interested employers should communicate internally in English and/or the country’s three official languages. The person being shadowed should at least occupy a management role. Companies and students can find more information here. Registration closes on 22 February.

The scheme is one of 12 different educational programmes offered by the Jong Entpreneuren, which was founded in 2005 for young people aged from 9 to 30. “We want to help young people to get into the entrepreneurial mindset and take their life in their hands,” says Kroon.

Since it was established, the non-profit’s programmes have catapulted a number of young entrepreneurs into the local eco-system, including Sovi’s Alessio Weber and Gianluca Marinelli, Michel Hoffmann, who founded Giftable, and Misch Strotz of Neon Marketing.

A second job shadow event will take place in November, over two days, aimed at engineering roles. The Engineering Trainee Days programme is aimed at young people aged 16 and over. More information can be found here.
