Luxembourg students demonstrated their creativity and skills when they participated in PowerWeek 2023, an educational hackathon focused on circular economy solutions.

Eight companies, not for profits and ministries developed the weeklong challenge for students at Luxembourg high school Lycée des Arts et Métiers (LAM) and professional retraining body Institut de Formation de l’Education Nationale (IFEN)

“The goal was to empower students to take on real-life challenges,” coordinator Benoit Fortemps explained. “We also wanted to connect the educational world with the professional world and help students learn technical skills related to curricular economy, value proposition, intellectual property and standardisation, as well as soft skills like creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, personal development and citizenship.”

Altogether, 119 LAM BTS students and six from IFEN participated in the programme, which was hosted at the Forum in Geesseknäppchen from 6-10 February. The students demonstrated high levels of creativity and innovation, with one group using generative AI to help prepare their pitch. Some students even landed job interviews from the experience while three groups have been invited to present their projects to the leadership teams of one of the companies which partnered on the hackathon.
