Learning should be fun, easy and accessible. From chess to advanced mathematics, scaleup Superprof caters to all tastes and levels of knowledge.

Trying to learn a new skill can be a drag, especially if the tutor lost all his passion for his subject ten years ago. Not to mention attempting to learn a skill through a lifelessly narrated online tutorial.

Superprof, the French startup turned scaleup, caters to the wide audience of young and old learners frustrated with their teachers, available courses or high prices of local tutors. Founded in 2013, the scaleup created a platform to make it easier to find tutors, especially in more niche subjects.

“At the time, if you wanted to find a tutor, you’d have to go through your local newspaper or noticeboard. Superprof wanted to make it easier for students and tutors to connect, especially in more niche and hobby subjects,” says Emma Cowan, SEO Manager for the English countries at Superprof.

Of the more than 1,000 subjects which are available on the platform, around 30% are focused on academics. In Luxembourg since 2015, the most popular subjects are mathematics, Luxembourgish, German, piano and swimming.

“Every Level Of Ability”

Created to allow the widest range of people to learn a new skill, Superprof’s platform allows its tutors to host both online and in-person classes. To ensure the quality of the tutors, Superprof verifies the qualifications of its tutors. Additionally, learners can leave ratings and reviews for the courses they’ve taken.

“The reason we do this is because we want people to have access to every level of ability. Not everyone wants to take a lesson with a professional piano player, some just want to try it out for a lesson or two. By allowing our tutors to set a price level according to their level of skill, we make our platform more accessible,” comments Emma.

For a monthly subscription of €9/month learners can access the platform and get in touch with as many tutors as they want – the additional hourly fee depends on the tutor but generally falls between €25-40.  For a full overview of the courses taught in Luxembourg, check out their website.

Already available in 39 countries and 18 languages, the scaleup aims to continue its expansion to Croatia, Greece and Israel as well as establish itself as one of the top 5 online tutoring companies in the world.
