At the Swissquote Investment Day 2024, financial professionals and private investors gathered for a comprehensive discussion on investment strategies. Hosted by Swissquote Bank Europe, the event took place at Kinepolis, Kirchberg on March 14th, offering a platform for over 500 attendees to gain valuable insights into the evolving investment landscape of 2024.

The event offered a rare opportunity for participants, including the general public, to gain insights into market trends presented by expert forecasts from several well-known and successful entities, and their representatives.

“The Swissquote Investment Day reflects our commitment to fostering insightful conversations with professional investors and raising the bar on financial education for all,” Jeremy Lauret, Head of Direct Investing at Swissquote Bank Europe.

Unlocking a path to financial freedom

Tim Harford, a Financial Times columnist and the author of “Undercover Economist,” hosted the event, taking center stage. The event was made up of two segments, the initial part featuring a presentation delivered by two prominent investors and authors sharing their financial insights, followed by panelists from prestigious institutions including experts Shlomo Benartzi, behavioral economist and professor, Vincent Denoiseaux, Head of Investment Strategy at AmundiETF, Olivier Pauwels, Director, Head of Wealth at BlackRock, and Mobeen Tahir, Director of Research at WisdomTree, also gave their insight on during the panel discussion of “What’s Ahead for Markets 2024.”

Candi Carrera was the first guest speaker to present to the audience. Carrera’s dedication to educating on the fundamentals of value investing and fostering financial autonomy mirrors a career fueled by his conviction that empowerment stems from knowledge and experience.

“Maybe some people will be inspired, and maybe they will realise that they can get out of their jobs, start investing, and be happy and financially free. I’ll put it this way, there were so many people in the room, it’s because they were wondering how they can actually change things in their lives, and that was the goal behind this Swissquote event,”

Andrew Hallam, acclaimed author, was second to present, and disrupted conventional financial wisdom, with a touch of humor that intrigued and engaged the audience. Once an educator, Hallam demonstrates an aptitude for simplifying investing, debunking wealth-building misconceptions, and teaching clear yet impactful methods to achieve financial independence and freedom.

“I think that from our side as presenters and experts today, we’re presenting practical strategies, and I think that this is the most important aspect in helping attendees. It’s not just about theory, it’s looking at actual practical strategies that people can take and initiate today and continue to build on in the future, a strategy for a lifetime,” said Andrew Hallam. Hallam states that investors are not fortune tellers and that a passive and diversified portfolio, with a lowered risk, is the way to go.

In the second segment of the event, attendees were enlightened by discussions led by Linda Yueh, economist, writer, and broadcaster, who dived into identifying early signs of an economic crisis. Linda spoke of the economic crisis faced worldwide, with an emphasis on the success of the Chinese economy.

Linda’s roundtable discussion highlighted lessons from her work on the greatest economic crashes. Linda offered the audience guidance and lessons on how to safeguard against an economic crisis. She emphasized the importance of learning from past financial crises to prevent future economic downturns.

She discussed early crisis detection based on her latest book, “The Great Crashes: Lessons from Global Meltdowns and How to Prevent Them”, highlighting that investors should always be on the lookout for opportunities within the current economic climate, emerging from declining interest rates and reduced cost of capital, while navigating various risks.
