If you aren’t up to date on the Arch Summit – check out the Silicon Luxembourg take here. In addition to keynote speakers, coffee, corporate and startup displays, the Arch Summit included three competitions for prizes totaling €250,000: Female Empowerment, Social Impact, and Disruptive Startup.

More than 135 startups (originating from a range of places such as the university incubator and England) competed in several rounds of pitches, from which a panel rated them and passed only some onto the finals. Social Impact and Female Empowerment competitors went through three rounds, while Disruptive Startup competitors went through six!

The Winners
Competition 1 – Female Empowerment

Taking the €50,000 prize was StarTalers, the Luxembourgish online financial coach and roboadvisor. StarTalers supports women willing to invest sustainably! Created in 2018 by 2 seasoned finance professionals Gaelle Haag and Thierry Smets, it provides women with financial awareness and training, a community of like-minded women to exchange with and sustainable solutions to invest in line with their values while achieving their life goals. StarTalers invests part of its benefits to further empower women in more precarious life conditions through financing initiatives promoting education and economic autonomy.

Competition 2 – Social Impact

Taking the €50,000 prize was FibriCheck (Qompium), Belgian-based digital health company focusing on the development and commercialization of low-cost, scalable and user-friendly medical grade mobile applications for a better health. The lighthouse app, FibriCheck, is a CE-certified Class IIa diagnostic solution to detect heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation outside the clinical environment using the smartphone camera.

Competition 3 – Disruptive Startup

Taking the €150,000 prize was Verv, British home energy saving assistant. Verv is a clever home energy assistant that gives you intelligent information about key appliances and electricity usage in your home, helping you to tackle your bills, reduce your carbon footprint and keep your home safe. Using cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology, Verv starts to identify appliances in your home by their unique energy signatures and tells you how much each one is costing you to use, in real-time.
