This finale of the competition, organised by the Luxembourgish Football Federation (FLF), the Luxembourg Esports Federation (ESLF) and Orange Luxembourg was hosted in Contern last week.
In this year’s edition of the Orange eLeague competition 32 total participants from 16 teams out the BGL League competed in an individual bracket and in a team bracket.
On 26 May the six finalists of the individual bracket faced off ‘in real life’ with a live public at The Loft, a facility for indoor football in Contern.
There, Ivanilson Lopes Pereira from the team RM Hamm Benfica, won first place. He received a cash prize of €1,250 and a ticket to participate in the FIFA 22 Global Series.
Second and third place were earned by Louis Trierweiler from team Alisontia Steinsel and Georges Geraldo member of Swift Hesperange respectively.
A bigger scope
The team bracket received a major overhaul this year. As opposed to last years edition, they organised the league as a real championship. 480 matches were disputed over eight weeks. Last year only 70 were played.
Here the big winners were Kevin Vieira & Diogo Santos from the team UN Kaerjeng. The two of them earned a cash prize of €2,500.
Ivanilson Lopes Pereira and Joe Oliveira Faustino from RM Hamm Benfica came in second and Swift Hesperange came third with their team members Georges Geraldo and Fabio Martins David.
Joe Hoffman president of the Luxembourg Esports Federation commented on the competition: “This second edition of the Orange League confirms our desire to integrate eSports into the heart of the sporting community reaching out to a football-loving public. We are pleased with the work done in collaboration with the Luxembourg Football Federation and Orange.”
The competition was also livestreamed on Twitch and on RTL Play.
