The Luxembourg Future Fund 2 (LFF 2) has contributed an additional €5m to VIVES IUF, a European science-focused seed fund, bringing the total of its second closing to €75m.

Created by the European Investment Fund (EIF) and the SNCI, the LFF 2 is a €200 million investment programme which stimulates the diversification and sustainable development of the Luxembourgish economy.

“LFF 2’s investment in VIVES IUF illustrates our ambition to become a key investor in the European innovation ecosystem and to address the many challenges in the fields of health, agriculture, industry and technology transfer,” said Philippe Durieux, CEO of VIVES.

Initiated by UCLouvain and led by VIVES Partners, VIVES IUF plays a key role in the creation of technological spin-offs and start-ups. By filling the capital needs in the seed phase, VIVES IUF acts as a catalyst to transform scientific research into growth start-ups. With its investment experience in Luxembourg and its long-standing relationships with the Luxembourg startup ecosystem, VIVES is in a strong position to support innovation in this country.

“Our goal is to promote the development and diversity of the country’s economy. I am convinced that a new generation of innovative companies can emerge from the fruitful meeting between investors and public research in Luxembourg. VIVES will promote the development of these new businesses,” emphasizes Eva Kremer, CEO of SNCI.

Together with VIVES, the EIF aims to increase investments in life sciences and bring more ideas from the lab to the market.
