The Sound Of Data: Final Event With Max Copper And The Artists In Residence

Since May 2022, a dozen artists have been in residence at the Rocklab as part of The Sound of Data, a project of Esch2022 – European Capital of Culture, jointly supported by the Fonds National de Recherche, the University of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Insitute of Science & Technology and the Centre de Musiques Amplifiées – Rockhal.

This project, which brings together music and science, will end on Saturday 3 December with a conference dedicated to sonification and a live show at the Rockhal.

For The Sound of Data project, researchers from the University and LIST collected historical data, traffic data, 3D body scans and collaborative art. These were then transformed into music by artists during a residency under the supervision of mathematician and musician Valery Vermeulen and through exchange with several other international artists and contributors such as Cristian Vogel (DJ, composer), Jamie Perera (sound artist) and Thomas Glendinning aka ELPHNT. This innovative and experimental approach is called data sonification.

You can discover the result of this scientific and creative process by coming to see the artists perform on the Rockhal stage on 3 December alongside Valery Vermeulen and headliner Max Cooper, an electronic music icon who will present his new album in an immersive live show.

The closing event on 3 December will take place in two parts:

  • First part – exclusive access for the press: Closing Conference (reservation required) at the Rockhal Floor at 17:45.
  • Second part – open to the public: Max Cooper’s immersive live show preceded by an original performance by Valery Vermeulen and a final showcase of the 11 artists in residence for this project at the Rockhal Club at 20:00.
