Xavier Bettel, minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade, and Lex Delles, minister of economy, SMEs, energy, and tourism have signed an agreement with Pony.ai, which intends to establish significant operations, including its European data center in Luxembourg.
Pony.ai, a world leader in autonomous driving technology is set to establish, among other things, a European center of excellence in R&D in Luxembourg.
Signed during the first part of their working visit to California in the United States, this agreement aims to strengthen the company’s capabilities within the European Union and to develop tailor-made solutions for European users.
Autonomous driving pioneer
“We aim to make the Grand Duchy a pioneering European country in terms of autonomous driving,” said Lex Delles, minister of economy, SMEs, energy, and tourism.
Next to its R&D center, the company also plans to establish its sales, maintenance, and support operations in the Grand Duchy and to expand its European data center in Luxembourg, focusing on secure, efficient processing that complies with national and European requirements in the sector.
“There is synergy between Pony.ai’s technical expertise and the government’s national development strategies which aim to catalyze research and technological development, local job creation, skills development, and sustainable economic growth,” said Xavier Bettel, minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade.
Founded in 2016, Pony.ai already has robotaxis and robotruck pilot projects which are set to be mass-produced in China with Toyota.
