You probably remember Ivan Cardoso, the Startup Chauffeur and yoga practitioner who used to drive entrepreneurs around the city for offbeat interviews. He has just launched a clothing brand, WOKE NATION. Its profits will be donated to NGOs, starting with the Yoga Mandala Project. Here’s our quick and curious interview.

What is WOKE NATION about?
WOKE NATION is a clothing brand that donates 100% of its profits to NGOs. We ensure that all our products have the FAIR WEAR label, ensuring no child labour and fair working conditions.
The current NGO that WOKE NATION supports is the Yoga Mandala Project. The Yoga Mandala Project is a non-profit organization that supports the physical, mental, emotional, and social well being of refugees. They develop sustainable yoga programs, volunteer as yoga teachers in the field, host trauma-informed training, and organize crisis relief projects.
How did you come up with the idea?
I have been practising yoga and mediation for several years now, and I have noticed how helpful it is to enhance my resilience, release stress and center myself. The idea of launching an ethical and charitable clothing brand came to me after meditation. It was important that I choose NGOs that focus on the mental and emotional well being of people.
What are the benefits of the initiative?
Wearing WOKE NATION is a statement: People are supporting a good cause and raising the awareness of mental well-being. All the profits will be donated to NGOs who support the mental, emotional, and social well-being of people in need. I believe that this pandemic is forcing us to deeply connect with ourselves and listen more carefully to what our bodies are telling us.
What do you expect from it?
My vision is that people wear WOKE NATION with pride, knowing that they support a good cause. I hope that we can have a more significant impact by supporting several NGOs in the future. Also, I envision to work closely with yoga and meditation studios.
