Steve Albrecht turns Luxembourg’s scattered public data into ready-to-use dashboards, giving businesses a clearer view of their markets.

LuxInsights, a Made in Luxembourg market-intelligence platform, has quietly become a go-to resource for professionals who need to understand Luxembourg’s economy fast, without digging through dozens of scattered public data sources themselves.

Silicon Luxembourg sat down with Steve Albrecht, founder of LuxInsights, to discuss how the platform turns Luxembourg’s fragmented open data into around 100 ready-to-use dashboards covering ten areas of the economy and society.

“Luxembourg does not necessarily lack valuable data.”

What personal experience made you realize Luxembourg was missing this data layer?

LuxInsights grew out of my earlier work on LuxData and my long-standing commitment to data literacy, recognised by the Luxembourg Ministry of Digitalisation with the 2023 Digital Inclusion Award (Prix de l’inclusion numérique). Through this work, I realised that Luxembourg does not necessarily lack valuable data; it lacks an accessible layer between public information and practical use. LuxInsights was created to close that gap by turning existing data into ready-to-use insights.

What was the hardest part of turning scattered public data into ready-to-use dashboards?

The hardest part is turning fragmented public data into information that decision-makers can trust and use immediately. Public datasets are often spread across different platforms, formats and reporting periods, so considerable work goes into identifying, validating, cleaning and standardising them.

However, accuracy alone is not enough. We also need to understand the questions businesses are trying to answer and design dashboards that make complex developments clear at a glance. The real challenge, and where LuxInsights creates value, is striking the right balance between methodological rigour in the underlying data, and simplicity and relevance in the data visualisations.

Who are LuxInsights’ typical users today, and what’s their main use case?

Our users include journalists, HR and recruitment professionals, automotive and real estate companies, and business development teams in financial and professional services. They use LuxInsights to identify trends, understand their markets and support reporting, client advice and strategic decisions. We also work with ecosystem organisations to develop datasets and dashboards around concrete market needs.

How do you differentiate from free public data sources like STATEC?

Official sources provide the raw material; LuxInsights provides the user experience and business context. Instead of searching across multiple platforms and interpreting datasets individually, users can explore relevant indicators in one place, compare developments and download visualisations, dashboards, or cleaned data in practical, ready-to-use formats. LuxInsights therefore complements institutions such as STATEC by reducing the distance between public data and informed business decisions.

“It lacks an accessible layer between public information and practical use.”

What’s next for LuxInsights — new sectors, partnerships, international expansion?

Our aim is to build Luxembourg’s largest library of trusted data visualisations and insights. New sectors and partnerships will continue to develop around the concrete needs of our users.

Our international ambition is not simply to replicate LuxInsights elsewhere, but to make Luxembourg easier to understand from abroad. We want LuxInsights to become the gateway for foreign companies, investors and advisers seeking reliable insight into Luxembourg’s economy, sectors and opportunities.
