LuxAI has centered its mission around making healthcare more accessible to autistic children and children with developmental disorders. The QTrobot, an AI-powered social robot, is at the forefront of the company’s efforts to revolutionize early childhood intervention.

LuxAI was founded in 2016 to create a technology-driven and innovative solution to help children with autism. The main protagonist of the company is QTrobot (QT stands for cute), a 60 cm tall humanoid robot designed to provide educational support to children with autism and special needs. The robot utilizes artificial intelligence to measure the success rate of individual lessons, adapt difficulty based on children’s ability levels, and provide real-time feedback.

“QTrobot is a cognitive robot that can interact with children, understand their needs, and propose individualized feedback in a playful environment,” says Aida Nazari, founder & COO at LuxAI.

The QTrobot communicates with children using human features such as conversation, body language, and facial expressions. The content of the child-robot interactions is based on scientific and evidence-based literature and individually adjusted through the assessment and feedback of the parents. While the QTrobot follows a structured and pre-defined intervention, it can adapt its communication style and tone based on the age and knowledge level of the child.

“The children generally have a very positive perception of the robot. The robot can remove some of the fear and trepidation the children might otherwise have if they were talking to an adult or an authority figure”, comments Nazari.

Besides providing a high level of comfort, QTrobot helps children with special needs and autism develop better competencies and social skills and gain more confidence. Many parents have provided positive testimonials and reported significant improvements in their children’s social inclusion, a crucial aspect of their overall well-being.

Beyond Luxembourg

LuxAI has been nationally and internationally recognized for its innovation and impact. It has received multiple awards, including the Best Social Innovations award from the European Investment Bank, the Smart Toy award from the World Economic Forum, and the Top Ten Best Ideas Award from the EU Commission.

Lux AI’s desire to innovate and improve access to robotized and AI-assisted healthcare is not bound locally. The QTrobot is sold in over 25 countries, including Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Different versions of the robot are currently available in the context of at-home education of children with autism, in special needs schools and centers, and in human-interaction research.

LuxAI has expanded its operations by establishing an office in the United States. The company is currently well-positioned in terms of funding. Still, future efforts of scaling and commercializing might position the company to seek additional funding to support its expanding market presence.
