GovTech Afterwork: Robotics

Through this event, the GovTech Lab wants to facilitate the exchange between the private and the public sector in the field of robotics. Professionals working actively in the field of robotics will be presenting theoretical concepts as well as their current projects. The event takes place at the House of Startups and will be closed by a networking session.

Why robotics for the GovTech Lab’s event, and what does it signify?

The GovTech Lab team covers a range of technology-related topics throughout the year and takes into account the input and feedback from the participants at the different events. This time we have chosen to talk about robotics and have asked our speakers, who are experts working in this field, to present theoretical concepts as well as their current projects that inspire our audience. The aim is to show how robots and the data they collect can help to simplify, speed up and improve the work of public services in various domains such as healthcare, education, safety, infrastructure management, etc.

What are the GovTech Lab’s expectations for this off-site event and its collaboration with the private sector?

This is the first time that we are organising an event outside the GovTech Lab premises. By coming to the House of Startups, we’re looking forward to meet the key players who are so important to Luxembourg’s digital transition. The GovTech Lab aspires to become the platform par excellence for the exchange of digital needs, new technologies and innovative solutions. To this end, specialised events like this one are being organised with external actors with the aim of developing a GovTech community in Luxembourg.

What are the specific goals of the private-public sector meetup during the GovTech Luxembourg event in September?

Open innovation applied to public services seeks to introduce innovative ideas, skills or technologies from businesses or start-ups, for instance, willing to support and strengthen innovation in public services. The robotics event will give all the participants the opportunity not only to learn about this specific subject, but also to meet and discuss all sorts of technological issues and, who knows, identify common ground on which collaboration could prove very useful for all parties.

What topics will the speakers cover during their presentations at the event?

The presentations will range from theoretical to practical use cases in the specific domain of robotics. The startup Spacetime will present how they use robots to create 3D models of different environments such as forests or buildings and how these can be used to extract and analyse relevant data. LuxAI will provide insights on how socially assisted robotics can be used in healthcare and education. Furthermore, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) will showcase their ongoing projects and research on autonomous robots and intelligent automation systems as well as concrete public sector use cases in the field of robotics. In addition to that, Amazon web services will be present to share insights on the development of their own robotics use cases.

How will the networking session foster collaboration between private sector participants and the GovTech Lab?

The essence of the Lab can be summarised in three words: experiment, exchange, innovate. For government bodies, external knowledge from the private sector enriches innovation activities and constitutes a major asset for the public sector: ideas are better connected to existing needs and more in tune with users’ expectations. The idea behind the GovTech Afterwork is to create an event where new connections can be formed by bringing all the stakeholders together. During the networking session, which follows the presentations, potential collaboration opportunities and project ideas can be discussed among our participants in an informal, relaxed environment.
